What would a “benevolent” dictator of the world do to ensure survival and prosperity of mankind?

If the whole world was run by a single person, and his or her only brief was to ensure the prosperity and survival of mankind as a whole from now until his/her retirement in 40 years time, what actions would he take to achieve this?

Would he invest heavily in technology to try to find alternatives to oil for our energy needs
Would he promote more education and media so that people don’t need to travel as much, and use less energy.
Or maybe he would authorise a world war to get the population down to a level where the remaining people can live more comfortably with the dwindling natural resources there are.

If I was that dictator I would make it illegal for anyone to own more than one home in one country. There are so many homeless people out there and the fat cats who own so many have no guilt whatsoever when they see how these people live. There are so many empty buildings that could house these people, and its all in the name of money. I think its just not right and before you go on about how people worked for what they’ve got just think about it. You can only live in one place at any given time. Its a scandal. We should start having a moral concious and think about others instead of thinking of ourselves. We have Whoop de doo! When you step over the next homeless person you see, just think about what I said!
Wars are made by men who want power, its mostly political anyway, look at T.B abd G.B what a pair of plonkers, ok they got elected for their next term of office but at what price. They should be the ones on the front line. The world has so many resources we could never use up, its just us in the west who enjoy the rewards while the rest toil to pick the cotton that make your shirts and pick your coffee beans, just so you can have lovely fresh coffee in the morning and the ones who pick your oranges so you can drink that juice in the morning. Have you a brain at all? Think about things that affect us all and how things are and how they are not meant to be but for greed and power.
I think things should be on an even keel where we all do our fair share and not just behind a desk all day pushing papers that are absolutely meaningless. I think the stock market is the biggest sham of the lot. How anyone could speculate on anything is beyond me, it is the biggest form of gambling going, and that is another thing I would abolish, it brings misery and poverty to many children.
Sorry for the novel, but you shouldn’t have asked!

Can someone help me summarize this article?

Between 5-8 senteces.

WASHINGTON – Democrats intend to put more focus on economic issues as Congress returns this week for a packed December agenda while President Bush and Republicans push for release of money for the war in Iraq without conditions.
House Democrats, sensing increasing unease about the economy, plan a session Friday with Wall Street executives and other financial experts to discuss the mortgage crisis, tightening credit and other problem areas.
The Senate returns today and the House returns Tuesday, with Democrats hoping to move quickly on an energy bill. The measure would increase fuel-economy standards for the first time in more than a decade and provide a legislative accomplishment heading into 2008.
But Sen. Pete V. Domenici, R-N.M, a leading Republican voice on energy policy, took exception to the proposal, accusing Democrats of striking a deal among themselves and including an objectionable provision to require utilities to use a set amount of renewable fuels.
“That is no way to pass legislation and is another in a long list of reasons why Congress has lost the faith and trust of the American people,” said Domenici, the senior Republican on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
Republicans say Democrats are facing a legislative logjam because they have spent too much of the year on fruitless efforts to force a change in Iraq war policy.
Both parties want to block the alternative minimum tax to prevent an estimated 20 million taxpayers from falling under the levy that was created to make certain high-income Americans pay some taxes. But the parties have disagreed about how to accomplish that.
The House approved a plan that would have replaced the revenue by eliminating tax breaks for private equity funds and other financial entities, but it was blocked in the Senate. The Internal Revenue Service has warned that confusion over the repeal could delay tax refunds and complicate the filing season.
Congress also has to find a way to resolve a fight with the White House over 11 spending bills that finance every federal agency but the Pentagon. Bush has insisted he would not approve any domestic spending above his limits. Democrats offered to cut the difference in half, to $11 billion, but the administration refused.
Congress and the White House are also in a dispute over money for the war in Iraq. The House has approved $50 billion in interim financing, but it sets a goal of next December to withdraw most combat troops. That was blocked in the Senate, and Bush and Republicans have been trying to pressure Democrats to release the money without strings, saying a delay could force Defense Department layoffs.
Besides the tax and spending issue, Congress has to dispose of a major farm bill, the annual Pentagon policy bill, a trade deal with Peru and a terrorist surveillance measure, though the present wiretapping legislation extends into February. The fate of a children’s health insurance program also remains in question.

admin answers:

1. Biodiesel does not compare with traditional gasoline. It is an adequate replacement for petroleum based diesel, but not for gasoline.
2. Availibity varies by location and time of year.
3. Biodiesel typically costs more than petro-diesel, though it is less sensitive to price swings and is occasionally cheaper or competitive. It is additionally eligible for various subsidies and tax credits.
4. The US government and state governments are making a push for domestic biofuel production, through the above mentioned subsidies and other policies in pursuit of energy independence, economic development and environmental sustainability.

5. Biodiesel is produced from oilseeds or related crops (including soy and sunflowers for example) and can be sown in the same kinds of fields that you grow food in (though not at the same time, of course).
6. Biodiesel has approximately 85% of the potential chemical energy as petrodiesel, so will be consumed faster at a given speed or load.
7. Different precursor oil crops have different yields and risks.
8. Provided the sun keeps shining and there is farmland somewhere, we won’t run out. Remember that the amount we can produce is fairly limited (by available farmland).

All in all, biodiesel is an interesting concept, but one which does not promise to solve any major problems- if all our farmland were devoted to fuel crops rather than for food, we’d still not cover even a small portion of our motor fuels needs.

The remaining questions are off topic and should be asked in the appropriate venue.

The fact is global warming will be neither good nor bad. Global warming could make land once unavailable, resourceful land, it would create new habitats and allow life to grow it places it couldn’t before.

On the other hand it has motivated us to find new energy resources which would provide alternatives to the precious crude oil resource which is limited. However, global warming could help us find oil in places we couldn’t explore once before.

Oil is liquid form of decomposed organic matter
Natural gas is gas form of decomposed organic matter
Coal is solid form of decomposed organic matter
As supply increases, demand decreases and price decreases (and visa versa)
solar is energy form the sun and its rays
wind and water are energy form wind and water
nuclear energy is energy from splitting/fusing atomic nucleuses
alternative energy is solar, wind, water, nuclear, hydrogen oriented, ect. (basically anything that is not coal/natural gas/ oil related)
tidal is energy from the various high tides
geothermal is energy form the earth’s heat
hydrogen is where a machine turns hydrogen into enegry and gives pure water as ‘waste’ (my personal best pick)
electrolysis is process by which Hydrogen becomes water, uses electric currant to fuse Hydrogen and oxygen

A renewable resource is somehting that we have plenty of or we can remake (water, wind, solar, hydrogen, ect.)
A nonrenewable resource is something that we can not make or we have limited amounts of (oil, gas, coal)

No non-renewable resource shown. An alternative non-renewable energy source not shown is the sun (solar energy).

What do you think of the venus project?

It’s useless to criticize the culture without providing alternatives. The Venus Project proposes plans for social change that work toward a peaceful and sustainable global civilization. It outlines an alternative social design where human rights are not just paper proclamations, but a way of life. The Venus Project has a vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know to achieve a sustainable world civilization. It calls for a scientific redesign of our culture in which war, poverty, hunger, debt, and unnecessary human, suffering are viewed as not only avoidable, but unacceptable. Anything less will result in a disastrous continuation of the problems inherent in today’s world.

Simply stated, a resource-based economy focuses on resources rather than money, and provides an equitable distribution thereof in a humane and efficient manner. It is a system in which goods and services are available without the use of money, credit, barter, debt, or servitude.

The first objective is to eliminate scarcity. A resource-based economy overcomes scarcity by using renewable sources of energy, plus computerized automated manufacturing and inventory. It would design safe energy-efficient cities with advanced transportation systems, and would provide universal health care and more relevant education.
The aim of this new social design is to encourage an incentive system based on human and environmental concerns, and to avoid the shallow and self-centered goals of individual wealth, property, and power. These new incentives would help people evolve self-fulfillment and creativity, both materially and spiritually.

Green Cooking – Any Suggestions, experience, or sources?

I’m currently working on a paper that must revolve around the concept of energy resources, utilization schemes, storage concepts, conservation schemes, and societal or environmental impact.

After researching just how much energy our microwaves, toasters, ovens, etc. use, I thought it would be interesting to look into what’s being done to make cooking our food more environmentally friendly. I’ve come across some articles on TreeHugger (http://treehugger.com/) but does anyone have any other interesting articles, suggestions, or experience they’d be willing to share.

I’m interested in everything from food transport (using restaurant leftovers to power a vehicle that delivers waste for compost to growers, and picks up new food while at the farms) to alternative cooking methods (solar hot dog cooker made out of foil and an oatmeal canister).

I’ve been using the concept of “green cooking” for at least the last 30 years! I bought a solar oven and a solar cook-top for use while camping when I was a boy scout. I have baked a mountain of biscuits and cooked a lake of stew on them both and have fried enough eggs and bacon to have completely depopulated an entire farm (grin).

As for energy conservation and efficiency, you can throw them all out the window if you will only go for solar electric on-site generation and storage. Go to the website below to get an eye full….and focus your paper on completely converting a modern house or business, even a restaurant, to solar power. Don’t get confused with solar hot water heating…that is passe’ and never really worked any way…Im talking about solar photovoltaic cells and pannels that produce bountiful electricity from the sun.

Point-source water heaters, electric ranges and dryers and washers….there is no end to what you can do with an all electric house and a solar array with battery backup! 100% clean power!!! And a bountiful supply as well!!!!

Why are people so focused on gas prices?

The only reason why alternative energy sources aren’t really widely available for cars (fuel-cells, electric/hybrid) is because there isn’t a demand for them, thus car companies don’t make them because they think people won’t buy them.

admin answers:

The reason why oil prices are so high is that there if fear, just fear that the oil supply could be cut, not because of any oil shortage. That’s why Saudi Arabia wouldn’t increase production; there isn’t the demand for it. The cost of getting gas to market hasn’t gone up so big oil is making huge profits.

We have a bottleneck in that our refining capacity is limited, but the oil companies have known that since Hurricane Katarina and still haven’t done anything about it. Exxon has made billions of dollars in profit that they could use to reinvest in their business by building more refineries, but they don’t. Instead they complain that gas prices have to go up every winter and every summer because when they change the mix of heating oil to gasoline they make they don’t have enough capacity so there is a shortage.

The price of oil is never coming down. The fear may go away, but China and India are not. India has just released a new car that is built for the masses so their hunger for gas will only go up. China used to be a nation of bicycles, but they have replaced them with cars so their appetite will only go up as well. The oil supply is limited, we have enough for at least 50 years without having to pay $5.00/gallon for gasoline, but the demand for it is driving the market.

When gasoline goes up 50 cents then the price of every good and service goes up as well. The trucker who brings it to the store has to pay more for gas so he has to charge more. The store has to pay its employees more so they can commute to work to sell the product or service and this cost has to be passed on to the consumer, so a 50 cent rise in gas is more like a 75 cent rise since everything else is going to go up because of that increase. Even the newspapers cost more because of the high price of gas, simply to deliver them, to power the machines that run them, to pay the people who write them and to pay all the other people who work to keep those workers at work; from the coffee barista who serves them more expensive coffee, to the company that supplies the staples for their staplers, or the pencils that they use to make notes with, or the post it notes that they post reminders to themselves with. The price of gas includes a built in increase to the price of everything else.

In the 1970s OPEC shook its fist and closed the oil pipe flow down to a trickle so the US would know they were serious about the increasing price of gas. Back then $1.00/gallon was high, I can remember seeing 25 cents a gallon in the early 1970s. There was a panic for alternative energy sources then and a sudden need, but when OPEC relaxed its control over the supply of oil the panic went away and so did the incentive to do anything. We have known about this gasoline crunch for at least 30 years and we have hardly done anything about it.

Germany has lined its autoban (freeways) with solar cells to reduce their dependency, and farmers are raising sheep and constructing solar cell farms on the same land. They are a northern country without a lot of sunshine, but their investment is paying off and since a solar cell will last for at least 20 years with zero operating costs it is a good investment.

Yes, solar power won’t help Oregon very much, but Los Angelus gets a lot of its energy from Hoover Dam, that is in the middle of the desert. Our electrical supply net is well connected so if New Mexico and Arizona pave unused desert land with solar cells they can sell that power to places as far as Maine, Alaska, and Florida.

The problem is that is a lot easier to whine about something than to do anything about it. The US has the world’s largest supply of coal and most of our power plants burn coal which are horrible green house gas emitters. I was reading in Popular Science about a method of coal gasification that burns all the coal, all the hydrogen and then only emits CO2, which can then be piped into huge bags of a specially cultivated algae that makes biodiesel, and uses all the CO2 up and only gives of oxygen as its waste, the algae is mulched into biodiesel and that burns cleaner as well. It sounds like a great idea but only a pilot plant has been built and the Bush Administration is fighting it because it will make coal plants more expensive.

Windmills have kept the Dutch dry for hundreds of years. We can put windmills in windy areas, offshore, and now even underwater all to take advantage of natural movement. Sure Ohio can’t use power generated by undersea windmills offshore near South Carolina, but the power gird is connected so that the power can be sold and supplies to them.

We have the alternate sources of power, the alternate technologies to create that power. Germany has reduced the price to make solar cells, made them more efficient, and done it all on a commercial scale. What we don’t have is the incentive to do anything about it. When gasoline reaches $5.00/gallon then people are going to be screaming; “Why didn’t you do anything about the high price of gas?” As they drive off with their SUVs to go home, where their AC is set to 65 and has been running all day even though no one was home. We need to reach those people and convince them that if they save energy and if they ask for alternative sources of power then something will happen.

Then the next thing we have to do is convince big business of this. The electric hybrid Pris is so hot that they are on 1 year back order, but Chevy and Ford are still making gas hungry SUVs, just this month they decided to close a couple of those plants, and they wonder why they can’t sell cars.

The biggest problem with electric cars is the price and weight of the batteries; but notebook and cell phone technology has done more for battery research and development in the last 5 years than in the last 30. We have a company making an all electric car; the Tesla. The problem is that they are making a high end electric sports car; not a car for the general public.

People won’t do what is good for them until they are forced to do it, and even then they will scream and shout about it and resist. I live on a fixed income so the rise in gas prices hurts me a lot and they don’t include the price of gas when they make a cost of living adjustment. Still I like the higher price at the pump, it hurts, but it is a pain that all Americans need to feel. Only then we they do something about it.

Oh, and remember the panic last summer when Israel threatened to invade Lebanon, how that caused a jump in the price of gas, and before that it was the aftermath of Hurricane Katarina. It isn’t like we haven’t felt a gas shortage before, it is that most people just cried about it and paid the extra price.

7th grade science help?

I am having a huge problem! I am to work with someone else in this project and it says to do this:

We have an energy issue here at the research station. We need you and your partner to help us find a solution to our energy problem. Based on what you have learned about energy, you will create a new energy source for the research station.

Currently, at the research station we are using:

•chemical energy in propane by converting it to electrical energy in a gas combustion engine
The last process in the list above requires us to burn fossil fuels and is not sustainable. This practice uses up natural resources and must be eliminated or replaced. Your mission is to come up with an alternative energy source for us to use at the station.

Whats a possible answer? PLEASE HELP

admin answers:

Use an alternative, sustainable fuel. You can use methane generated by anaerobic digestion of waste material or hydrogen generated by electrolysis of water using photovoltaic, wind, tidal, OTG, nuclear fission, etc as the electricity source. Neither methane nor hydrogen contain as much chemical energy as propane, so more would have to be used for equal power output.

Do you think that a resorce based economy will awaken humanity spiritually and allow us to become more?

liberated spiritually and creative and flourish more.

There is enough oil left for about 50-100 years of consumption ASSUMING we consume it at the same rate than today. (that’s only an asteimate. Might be 200 years if we find oil somewhere else we haven’t looked yet)

HOWEVER, if chinese and indians all want a car like most developped countries, then you can divide how long that supply will last by 2.

MOREOVER, oil will NEVER run out, it will simply get really really really expensive. Expensive enough to force not to use your car ever again. And expensive enough to make air travel a part of history. (at least air travel for the masses will be history)

The funny thing is that the american military is only strong because of all the machines it uses : tanks, boats, airplanes. And the vast majority of that military power uses oil to function properly : when oil will run out, the usa will lose all military influence over the world.

Does any of the energy related issues, especially gas bother anyone?

It seems that the country isn’t really taking it seriously. They think that all of this will go away soon. I have taken a lot of geology classes and the experts are saying that all the oil fields are in decline, which means that they are nearing the end of their useful life. Oil isn’t being made anymore. The oil we use now was made millions of years ago and is made up of marine animals and plants. Most of the earth has been explored for more pockets of oil but they aren’t finding the big oil fields like you see in Saudi Arabia. The U.S. has reached the limit of their oil resources back in the 1970s. Our oil wells will never produce what they did once. Once the oil is gone, there won’t be anymore. The new oil wells will not produce enough oil to make up for the declines in the wells already producing or are in decline. The alternative fuels will not be able to replace the energy needs that we get from oil, fast enough and in the quantities we will need.
Those who answered my question didn’t even pay attention to what I said about renewables.
They will not get us up to where we are now with oil. Renewables rely on mostly biological precesses with exception of hydrogen, this isn’t a fuel but an energy carrier which loses as it is produced and processed. plus it requires electricity which is produced from the burning of coal or natural gas. Both global warming agents.

How powerful is the solar panel in terms of electricity generation?

I am wondering if the use of solar panel as energy generators can overtake or become more handy than our conventional power supply which is reliant on crude oil. With recent rises in crude oil or follow on increase in both gas & electricity bill, I think the big economies should be thinking of an alternative solution or else the oil producing nations and/or the oil cartels will undermine the developed world – the west.

admin answers:

Electricity is always (except a PV cell) created by turning a coil of wire around a magnetic field. This generates a flow of electrons (aka electricity). So, you really just need to get something to turn. Usually, you burn some fuel to heat water to steam which expands and pushes through a fan-like thing called a turbine that is attached to the old coil of wires.
With Hydropower, instead of heating water to make the turbines turn, gravity forces the water to push through the turbine and turn them. A damn allows the water to build up. You then control how much water to release through the turbine cylinders as it generates electricity.

Why don’t all OPEC countries place explosives and missiles targeting their own oil fields?

This would allow them to feel more safe in case of an invasion of their oil fields in the future? If anyone comes to invade, what the OPEC members would do would be to just destroy their oil fields and refineries.

No one wants a desert that has no natural resources so I assume the invading countries would just leave them be.

Wouldn’t this be a good form of self defense for the oil companies?

The reason I am asking this is because I see a possibility of large scale wars in the future for energy if we don’t start investing and mass producing alternative fuels.

admin answers:

First of all, the invasion and occupation of Iraq is already a large scale war, and while it may not be entirely about oil, obviously Iraq having the world’s second largest proved oil reserves isn’t a coincidence. You future is already here, though it may get much worse.

Secondly, oil facilities are very “soft” targets and it would take special forces hours to set up explosives and do crippling damage to them. So there’s no need to pre-position explosives where they could be stolen or used by insurgents. And there’s plenty of missiles already targeting oil facilities, so there again you are on the money.

Her job was to defend the democratic accusations as to her talents and experience. She pointed out that she got more votes as Mayor then Biden got for presidency, she also pointed out that her experience in leading a town, and the state of Alaska as Governor, is more experience than Obama and Biden have combined.
Edit: Actually John McCain said: “We make History. We are not victims of it”. (Right on Baby!)

Indeed I agree with McCain, and his values for America. He is a man of substance, as he has proven without words. It only takes an ear to listen to his story, and not even a kind one. Joe Biden acknowleged he would be proud to run with, McCain. “Uh” Liberals won’t like what he said about Obama…It’s not time for America to have an “on the job training” President during the Democratic debates.

Here’s a nice link to show how much Democrat (leaders) RESPECT John McCain. This is enjoyable, so click it please. (There’s a clip in there about how John McCain will work with Democrats to make jobs).

Liberal voters don’t know this about their leaders, but if they click the link, they will!

First answer was interesting…I was thinking the exact opposite…I’d put money on WW3 before the end of his second term should Obama be elected.

I agree with your assessment…McCain/Palin is the way to go if job growth is the criterion…and not just because of the obvious growth opportunities he mentioned in his speech. Obama’s plan sounds good on the surface…stimulate consumer spending by increasing support given to the lowest income brackets…simultaneously increase spending on education and job training to prepare people for better paying jobs…increase taxes on the wealthy and businesses to pay for these programs.

The problem is that they are just adding another layer to an impresive multi-level house of cards they’ve been building in Washington for decades…and this layer could be the one that brings the whole house down! The tax burden already influences the behavior of people in the highest tax brackets…and that influence is often negative for our economy. The wealthiest people (and corporations) hire a team of tax attorneys and accountants (and pay them a hefty salary) to find loopholes in the law they can take advantage of by the way they manage their wealth (foreign investment for example). …but those that aren’t among the wealthiest…but are still impacted by tax increases on the middle/upper tax brackets (along with other government-related burdens) are often forced into decisions that are detrimental to the long-term health of our economy.

For example, consider my former chiropractor…earned a lot of money when he started and invested it in stocks when the market was booming (dot.com boom)…increasing taxes (and other factors) drove him to transfer his wealth out of stocks and into government bonds (esp. Tax free bonds) before the bust! A few years later, facing increasing government obligations (and ridiculously high insurance premiums), he determined that he was working 50 – 60 hours a week (and employing two people) and earning less money from that work than he was from his investments…and that if he tightened his belt a bit (circulated LESS money in the economy), he could retire…in his 30s! How is that good for the economy? How is it good for the economy to increase taxes in a way that might force a great teacher to leave teaching because of the impact her wages have on her family’s tax bracket?

McCain’s approach not only keeps the energy-related jobs here, it also encourages investment in the economy by decreasing the tax burden for everyone. This stimulates both ends of the economic spectrum…giving lower income people more money to spend and making investment in the economy a more attractive option for the wealthiest.

Unfortunately, McCain’s plan may appear to increase unemployment in the short run…if he shrinks the government as he claims to want to do, there will be jobs lost in the government sector…but frankly, I think that’s the way we need to go if we want the economy to be strong in the future!

Absolutely! Even though OPEC has agreed to cut production, so many of the oil producing states are in such financial turmoil, eg : bolivia, Venezuala, Russia, they will cheat and pump more than what they agree to verbally. Regardless, answering your question, we do want freedom from foreign oil. It is up to congress to wisen up, and remove restrictions.

If so, why don’t they believe their God is strong enough to destroy the Earth on his own without the help of man?

If not, why don’t most Christians support the Green movement (as in anti-global warming, alternative energy sources, conservation efforts)? Why do most conservative Christians think it is such an evil cause?

Is the world prepared for an oil shortage?

It may not happen for another twenty years, then again it might. But, if we (the human race) cannot use fossil fuels as a form of energy/ natural resource, how will our lives change? Are their enough alternatives? Are we looking at an inevitable global depression?

admin answers:

I’ve spent an entire semester in university listening to and researching over this issue … And yes the “peak” has passed … If you look at the bell curve, we’re heading towards (or already are) on the decline side of the curve … And soon it’s going to be all over.

Basically we need to look into alternative source… And that’s where this thing gets tricky. Oil is, for the most part, needed for transportation… And cars and transport means that do not require fossil fuels are either not fast enough or they’re too expensive. So what to do now?

Well…. The answer lies in changing the minds of the human race… We live in an economy-driven world… They worry about making money, dont care where it comes from…

But the good news is that there’s an abundant amount of awareness about all the environmental issues out there… I’m in my 20s and i don’t remember this type of awareness happening 5 – 10 years ago… So we’re headed in the right direction… Question is are we alreadfy too late? The answer is: only time will tell!

And i can go on and on, but due to lack of time i have to end here … If i have more time before u close this q i might add more in!

I do Believe John McCain working together with Sarah Palin will be able to turn this thing around—-and here’s why: John desires to drill here—-drill now—and refine–(JOBS)-that’s not the solution for long term but any and all helps—then he wishes to encourage the development of new technological break-throughs in energy alternatives (JOBS)—-he wishes to harvest the oil from shale (JOBS)—he wishes to harvest our natural gas which is abundant (JOBS)—it is his desire to Utilize and develop ‘clean-coal-technology’—a great resource.(JOBS)—-he wishes to harvest our own vast resources of chemicals that we have been buying from abroad—and refine it (Massive JOBS_—he desires to use solar and wind resources as energy alternatives (JOBS)—he would like to see more nuclear reactors built to provide clean affordable electricity that will be needed to supply our needs. (JOBS)—–now all these jobs mean more people able to obtain good-paying jobs instead os sinking in despair.—-That’s a whole lot of money that is staying here in America instead of going overseas that will get pumped into massive job growth—-creating a broader tax base to ease the tax burden.—-Sarah Palin loves our country and will help in every way possible to make things better for us!
They will be a FINE team!—-sure would like to hear Your thoughts on this!

I agree wholeheartedly. McCain will be able to create jobs by making the tax cuts permanent, giving incentives and initiatives for growth of the economy, and with Palin at his side, I am sure the drilling will get done as well as the search for alternative energy to make this nation independent and stronger than ever.

We are not negative, and it is the positives with the Republican party that will keep this country growing and prosperous.

I have faith in the free market system, and know that going down the road to socialism just will not work. I will help keep America strong with my vote.

What’s the best way to end the US dependence on foriegn oil?

Is it more drilling to extract the remnants of a limited resource off our shores?

Or is it investing in alternative sources of energy, including encouraging automakers to think outside of the box of internal combustion engines?

admin answers:

It comes down to simple math.
The US holds about 3% of the world’s oil, yet we use about 25% of it. So the best, and really only, way to *completely* end dependence on foreign oil is to stop using oil! We don’t have enough in the US to feed our need, so as along as we continue to use oil, we will be dependent on foreign countries to provide it.
In order to do that, we need to shift our economy away from being petroleum-based. There are other sources of energy which can be used for the different sectors of our economy, from transportation to heating/cooling our buildings, and we need to develop those technologies and begin the conversion as soon as possible.

I have a vehicle concept that I want to develop with a major corporation. What do I do?

I have spent the last 7 years developing a vehicle that runs solely on alternative and/ or renewable energy resources. I want to put it into development, but I hardly have the funds to even begin such a project, so I want to reach out for help from a large corp, but have no idea how to start. Most of the big names in motor companies are inaccessible via email, and I definitely can’t get them on the phone. This idea is worth an untold fortune, and I NEED TO UTILIZE IT!! PLEASE HELP!!!

First you insure the integrity of your work by getting a patent otherwise you will not be the one getting the “untold fortune”, or even any reasonable portion of it.

Then you get some media attention. You make your own video and send it out to the news stations.

Then you wait until a corporation contacts YOU.

Or… You use snail mail and contact the “Research and Development Department” of major corporations and hope they toss you a bone if they decide you have something worth investing in.

stable careers in automotive field?

Help me out here, if possible. any answer would be much appreciated. Currently, im in the 10th grade attending a high school in southern louisiana. Our school systems down here are much different basically making us choose our career path as soon as we get here. im not saying thats a bad thing by any means, but it worries me that ive chosen a career path that is not best suited for myself. im already taking classes under the health profession and i know thats not what i want to do. ever since i was 2, my passion has been in the automotive field. its much deeper than liking fast, exotic cars. im very much interested in alternative fuels and other energy resources. cars are my life. i could tell you every make, model, year, and body style of every car made in my generation and some a little further back. im constantly researching, looking up new and future models. checking what cars are sold in china or somewhere and how they differ in what automobiles are sold in the USA. im updated with all new, upcoming, and returning manufacturers in the USA. i know all designs. im not a technical kind of guy.. engines really arent my thing… i find cars to be beautiful. i love automobiles that have form. i dont love the pointy, fast, exotic cars that most guys gawk at. i love cars that are different. i love cars that are new, innovative, and intelligent. cars showing practicality.
seeing the small fraction of my passion and knowledge for this field, are there any careers that are stable that might be a good fit. and car designer isnt stable. where might this kind of information be useful? i know, in the economy, the automotive industry is very unstable, but when you are putting wealth and stability against true passion, the passion wins. i would be hating life if i took a job in the health field instead of doing what i know best.

Automotive career fields will always be needed, but diesel mechanics make on average between $100,000-$150,000 the first few years. This job entails working on like big rigs and tractors for oil companies usually. Hope this helped and good luck

Agribusiness and Applied Economics vs Environmental Engineering for a Career?

I am a college student looking to get into alternative energy and natural resources careers after I graduate. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what major is more suited toward alternative energy and natural resources, what are the differences between the two careers and salary expectations? I have done a lot of research but I’m still not sure… Thanks.

admin answers:

Agribusiness and Applied Economics would deal with the business side of the Ag field. If you graduated with this degree you would be looking at a job such as a salesman, commodities trader, analyst, crop insurance and other financial jobs. Wages for these jobs vary widely, but most will be from the lower to mid range, some such as a commodities broker have the potential to pay very well.

Environmental Engineer is a broad term, but would be much closer to a job that you are looking for rather than the agribusiness. Jobs could be anything like a park engineer, jobs in conservation and anything else that requires a good amount of planning.

Generally, as with any type of engineer job, you will get paid very well. I have seen some colleges offering programs in alternative energy and conservation, but if these are the two choices you have, take the environmental engineer. The schooling is more intense, but the jobs pays much more and you will have many more options while working in the type of career you are looking for

Google! I’ll even help you with subjects to look up:

Wind energy. Hydro electrics, umm… Solar power, what else? Thats all i can think of, but thats a start. Even if you just google “alternative engery sources” you’ll get some good information.

Just be careful of wikipedia – its user based, not all the info is verified and many school will not accept it as a valid website for information.
